01 / The story
Centre, Alabama sits in the foothills of the Appalachians on the Coosa River. Football here starts in August, the field is in direct sun every afternoon of August camp, and the program runs every minute of practice on it. That is the brief Cherokee County High School handed Sprinturf when they began their field project.
A heat problem solved on the spec sheet.
Synthetic turf surface temperatures are the single most-asked-about variable on a Southern high school field build. Surfaces that bake in the sun become unsafe for August practice. Cherokee County's project pairs the dual-fiber Predator carpet with Sprinturf's NaturalCool heat-mitigation infill, the company's proprietary turf cooling system. The infill manages turf temperature without changing the look or feel of the playing surface.
The cooling technology addresses a critical concern for sports fields that receive substantial direct sunlight. By managing surface temperatures effectively, the system prioritizes player safety. And it does it in a way that has a hard-dollar consequence on the build budget: the system meets Gmax impact requirements without requiring an underlying shock pad. For a high school capital line, that is a meaningful cost advantage.
Why Predator with NaturalCool.
Cherokee County selected the Predator dual-fiber turf system with NaturalCool infill. Predator pairs Apex monofilament fibers with SharkTooth slit-film fibers. The dual-fiber architecture gives the surface the appearance and feel of natural grass while standing up to NFHS-level cleat traffic. The NaturalCool infill brings surface temperature down without compromising drainage, traction, or the field's hand feel.
Made two hours from this field.
Sprinturf operates as a national firm headquartered in Daniel Island, South Carolina, with fiber extrusion and turf manufacturing facilities in Dadeville, Alabama and Chatsworth, Georgia. The Dadeville plant is roughly two hours from Cherokee County's stadium. The fibers in this field were extruded a short drive from where they ended up tufted into a roll, shipped, and installed. Since 1998, Sprinturf has completed 3,000+ installations across North America, using exclusively American fibers and American labor on every field.

A program now built around the field.
A new field changes how a high school program can practice. Cherokee County now runs August camp without losing scrimmage time to surface heat. The program can host JV, varsity, and middle-school games on the same field across a single weekend without the surface telegraphing wear. Game-night logos hold under stadium lights. And every dollar spent stayed in the Sprinturf American-manufactured supply chain.
