01 / The story
College of Charleston baseball is a year-round program. The Cougars play a full Coastal Athletic Association schedule, host a deep non-conference slate, and turn the field over fast for postseason. The Patriots Point project gave the program a surface that holds tolerance through every one of those games.
A coastal program with year-round demand.
College of Charleston is one of the oldest college baseball programs in the South, with a CAA conference foothold and a track record of producing draft-pick talent. The schedule does not slow down. The team plays through Charleston's mild winter, into a long spring conference slate, and pushes through tournament play deep into May. The previous mixed-surface infield required hours of grooming between games and lost playability fast in heavy rotation.
Why GrandSlam Extreme.
The Cougars' coaching staff went with GrandSlam Extreme, Sprinturf's top-tier baseball system. GrandSlam Extreme uses a coordinated infield, outfield, and warning track architecture so the surface plays consistently from first base to the warning track. That matters for ball reads and footing. Outfielders chasing fly balls don't transition between fundamentally different surfaces. Infielders get a true bounce off the same fiber profile every play.
Beyond playability, GrandSlam Extreme cuts ground crew time. The grooming hours that used to come out of the program's labor budget on a mixed-surface field disappear. That's a real recurring savings, and it lets the field cycle through doubleheaders and tournament weekends without losing tolerance.
Install scope.
The Patriots Point project covered the full playing surface: infield arc, outfield, foul territory, and the warning track. Sprinturf coordinated panel layout, seam pattern, and inlaid logos through the program's branding. The field is now CAA tournament-ready and engineered to deliver consistent play through the rated warranty period.

Sprinturf's baseball footprint.
Sprinturf's GrandSlam line has been installed on D1, MLB-affiliated, and high school baseball venues across the country. The Charleston install joins a Southeast cohort that includes the Hoover Met Complex's tournament-grade D1 fields and a growing list of HBCU and CAA programs that needed a tournament-ready surface without the grooming overhead of natural infields.
